Marjorie J. Hurst

Marjorie Jean Hurst, 94, of Pleasant Hill, was born, February 3, 1923, in Kansas City, the daughter of James P. and Marguerite A. (Phelps) Sanders, Sr. She departed this life, Friday, March 10, 2017, at Addington House in Lee’s Summit surrounded by love.
Marjorie was a 1941 Manual High school, Kansas City, graduate.
On May 22, 1958, she was united in marriage to Glenn Washington Hurst in Kansas City. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1993.
Marjorie was employed as a Secretary for the Pleasant Hill Elementary school. She had also worked for Skelly Oil on the Plaza, and Lake City Ammunition. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Life Member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Chi Nu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and the Reading Book Club of Pleasant Hill. She enjoyed painting pictures, painting china, reading, and watching classic movies. She was a gifted seamstress and dressmaker.
Marjorie was also preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, James P. Sanders, Jr.; and one nephew, Ronnie Hurst.
She is survived by her close friend whom she referred to as her adopted daughter, Janet (and John) Berry of Pleasant Hill, referred granddaughter, Jennifer (and Kyle) Gunderson of Pleasant Hill; nephew James P. “J.P.” (and Paula) Sanders, III, of Independence; nieces, Donna (and Jim) Walker of Olathe, Mary Ann Hutsell of Georgia, and Sharon Kimbrell of Springfield; cousin Gerald (and Janie) Land of Pleasant Hill; sister-in-law Twila Phillips of Springfield; several great nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a host of many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Reverend David Owsley will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers are Bob Baldwin, Chuck Fulton, Kyle Gunderson, Travis Land, Allen Powell, and J.P. Sanders. Honorary casket bearers are John Berry, Robert Crawford, Gerald Land, and Frank Thibeault.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church or Kansas City Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
