Martha Hartzler

August 21, 1920 — February 15, 2011

Mrs. Martha Emma Hartzler of Harrisonville, Missouri was born August 21, 1920 near Markham, Ontario the daughter of Joseph Barkey and Lydia Ann (Weber) Reesor. She departed this life on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 24 days.
On August 2, 1956 Martha was united in marriage to JT Hartzler in Markham, Ontario Canada.
Martha was a homemaker. She had learned to work early in the family home. The third of nine children there was always work to do, including the families butchering business and farm. Martha had worked at the Mennonite Children?s Home in Kansas City, Missouri before her marriage. After her marriage and beginning their family, the list of what she did would make most of us tired. Besides caring for the home, she enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing large amounts of food. Helping with the dairy and the chicken house were also on the list. Martha was always part of the sewing circle, quilting with the ladies and enjoying their fellowship. She was a faithful member of Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church, Garden City.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, JT on September 22, 1991; two brothers, David and Lewis Reesor; three sisters, Mary Reesor, Annie McDowell and Eva Burkholder.
Martha is survived by three sons, John Hartzler and wife, Diana, Garden City, Missouri, Charles Hartzler and wife, Kathy, Middlebury, Indiana, Harry Hartzler and wife, Mary, Gunn City, Missouri; a daughter, Marilyn Bates and husband, Mike, Garden City, Missouri; eighteen grandchildren, Hannah Krehbiel (Luke), Reuben (Stacie) Hartzler, Brandon Hartzler, Heather Hartzler, Rebecca Stewart (Patrich), Bethany Hartzler, Sarah Lango (Jonathan), Brett Hartzler, Caleb Bates, Heidi Hartzler, Joan Hartzler, Emily Bates, Shon Hartzler, Zion Hartzler, Sherman Hartzler, Holly Hartzler, Vivian Hartzler, two great-grandchildren, Lily Krehbiel and Gracie Hartzler; a brother, John Reesor, Stouffville, Ontario Canada, Esther Saito, Vineland, Ontario Canada, Ruth Hunsberger, Ontario Canada; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Clearfork Cemetery near Garden City, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Life Choice Center.
