Mary Lou Cummings, of Garden City, Missouri was born on July 6, 1941 in Butler, Missouri the daughter of Howard Roland and Clara Emaline (Nothstine) Hahn. She departed this life on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at her home near Garden City, Missouri at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 4 days.
On September 17, 1959, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Darrel Eldon "Zip" Cummings in Harrisonville, Missouri.
Mary Lou was a graduate of the Adrian High School. She was employed as a lay out operator for AT&T in Lee's Summit, Missouri until her retirement in 1990. In early married life, Mary Lou and Darrel bought and fixed up farms and sold them until 1973, when they found the farm they loved and made as their home. She was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church. Mary Lou liked to bowl and was on several bowling teams in Harrisonville and later in Adrian, Missouri. She enjoyed traveling with her lady friends going to the boat and to dinner theaters. Mary Lou loved her animals and was always taking in strays that were left by her farm.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel "Zip" Cummings on October 22, 2012; a brother, Charles Hahn; a nephew, Dale VanSandt; her brother-in-law, C.L. VanSandt and sister-in-law, Glenna Cummings.
Mary Lou is survived by her sister, Ina VanSandt, Adrian, Missouri; her sister-in-law Doris "Doie" Keeney and husband Junior, Climax Springs, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. She will be deeply missed by many.
Funeral service were held Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Wayside Waifs.
