Melvin Beryl Marten of Garden City, Missouri was born July 28, 1944 in Columbus, Kansas, the son of Melvin Earl and Clara Belle (Hartsell) Marten. He departed this life on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the home of his daughter in Garden City at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 5 days.
On December 28, 1968, Melvin was united in marriage to Linda Paulette Buster in Harrisonville, Missouri. Melvin was employed as a truck driver for T & W Steele Company in Lee’s Summit, Missouri until his retirement in August of 2009. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Garden City and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Melvin enjoyed his family and grandchildren, the outdoors, hunting and fishing at Truman Lake. He will be remembered for being a good husband and father, being called Papa by his grandchildren and being a good friend and neighbor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jon Marten. Melvin is survived by his wife, Linda P. Marten of the home; three daughters, Tammy Marten, Mary B. Marten and Christy Guess all of Garden City, Missouri; two granddaughters, Peyton and Katelynn Guess; other relatives and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri. Cremation.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice or to the Garden City Sports Association.
