Mrs. Merle Shepard of Garden City, Missouri was born December 11, 1927 in Forest Hill, Texas the daughter of George Anderson and Maud D. (Cook) White. She departed this life on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at her home near Garden City at the age of 81 years and 6 months.
On May 23, 1949, Merle was untied in marriage to James Edward Shepard in Lamar County, Texas.
Merle was a homemaker. She loved children, especially her grand and great-grandchildren, the outdoors and gardening. Merle enjoyed cooking and if you left the house hungry, it was because of your own fault. Merle and Jim moved to near Garden City in the fall of 1961.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Ray, Roe, Wilson, George and Harlon; a sister, Marie.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Shepard of the home; two sons, Eddie Shepard and wife, Jenny, Lincoln, Missouri, Steve Shepard and companion, Kathy, Osceola, Missouri; a daughter, Susan Pendleton and husband, Gerald, Archie, Missouri; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Dorothy Pearl Ray, Garland, Texas; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri. Cremation.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Garden City Friendship Meals or to Crossroads Hospice.
