Merlin L. Smith

Merlin Lee Smith of Harrisonville, Missouri was born March 5, 1917 in Linnius, Missouri the son of Claude and Cloa (Lane) Smith. He departed this life on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Benchmark Healthcare of Harrisonville at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 4 days.
On September 9, 1929 Merlin was united in marriage to Neva Lorine Warren in Sedalia, Missouri.
Merlin was employed as a counter salesman for Airco Welding Products in Kansas City, Missouri until his retirement. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and had worked in the CCC Camp from 1937 to 1939. . Merlin enjoyed the outdoors, planting flowers, gardening and taking pride in his home’s appearance. He had lived in Butler and Lee’s Summit before moving to Harrisonville in August of 2003.
Besides his parents, Merlin was preceded in death by his wife, Neva on September 4, 2005; two brothers, Ore and Leland and his sister, Evelyn.
Merlin is survived by his son, Larry L. Smith and wife, Wanda, Garden City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Tracy Smith, Cameron, Missouri. Trent Smith, Garden City, Missouri, Lori Naber, Clinton, Missouri; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside services will be Thursday, July 12, 20112 at 10:00 a.m. at the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri under the direction of Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice.
