Nelson Stoneking

Nelson Lee Stoneking, of Harrisonville, Missouri, was born March 8, 1939 near Huntingdale, Missouri, the son of Lee Roy and Ruby (Akers) Stoneking. He departed this life Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at his home near Harrisonville at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 16 days.
On July 4, 1975, Nelson was united in marriage to Johnnie Diane Ethington in Independence, Missouri.
Nelson was employed as a truck driver for Reno Construction Company, Louisburg, Kansas until his retirement in 2001. He was an Army veteran. Nelson loved to play the steel guitar and in 1967 joined the Famous 95 Club in South Kansas City for 15 years and later played at the Middle Creek Opry. He had played with many famous people such as George Morgan, Red Sovine, Stonewall Jackson and Roy Clark as well as opened shows for Merle Haggard, Ray Price, Ernest Tubb, Porter Wagner, Dolly Parton, Mel Tillis and many other famous country singers. Nelson was well known in the local and surrounding area for his musical talent. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. Nelson had lived in Belton, Grandview, and Kansas City before moving to Harrisonville in 1997.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie D. Stoneking of the home; four sons, Robert Stoneking, Versales, Missouri, Jeff Stoneking, Chillhowee, Missouri, Nelson Stoneking Jr. and Scott Stoneking both of Raymore, Missouri; four daughters, Debbie Stoneking Burt, Seguin, Texas, Diane Stoneking, Independence, Missouri, Micki Stoneking, Cedar Springs, Michigan, Tammy Robbins, Cloverdale, California; 21 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fredd Stoneking, Springfield, Missouri, Carl Stoneking, Blairstown, Missouri; three sisters, Shirley Brown, Galena, Missouri, Janie Milligan, Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Judy Stoneking, Grandview, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville with burial in the Salem Cemetery near Blairstown, Missouri.
