Onalee May “Connie” Price of Harrisonville, died Friday, December 19, 2014, at Golden Years in Harrisonville.
Connie was born in Rogers, Arkansas. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1942 and went on to obtain her nursing degree from the Arkansas Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. She worked as a civilian at the Cedar of Lebanon Hospital, Los Angeles, California and the Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Connie volunteered August 25th, 1950, to serve in the United States Navy Nurse Corps. She began her military career at Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas during the Korean Conflict. She was sent to a tropical disease center at Longview, Texas and then on to McCloskey General Orthopedic Center at Temple, Texas.
She was then assigned to the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. While there, she requested inactive duty to join her husband, C.B. Price, who had returned to Cass County, Missouri to care for elderly parents. Connie remained in the Naval Nurse Corps Reserve until May 1958.
After leaving the Reserves and while raising her family, she continued a lifetime of service to her community and the State of Missouri. She continued her nursing at Cass County Missouri Hospital and working for a local doctor.
She served as the district school nurse for the Harrisonville School System for thirty two years. She was responsible for kindergarten through twelfth grade and the Vocational Technical School.
She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Health Arts from the College of St. Francis on May 17, 1980.
Connie has also served as a private duty nurse, secretary for the Missouri State School Nurses Association, and has been active in the Cass County Registered Nurses Organization. She was active in the Veterans Foreign War Auxiliary and served as president five times. Connie was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and belonged to the Cass County Historical Society and Genealogy Group. Connie and C.B. Price were active members in the United Methodist Church for many years.
Connie’s hobby was playing the piano and would play anytime, anywhere she could, for the many organizations she was active in and many times for the residents at nursing homes.
Connie was recently honored for thirty years of membership and service to the Mary Sibley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served as Chaplain for the chapter for six years.
Connie and C.B. Price were married August 13, 1949 in Harrisonville at the United Methodist Church., After fifty six years of marriage, Connie lost her husband, C.B. Price, in 2004.
Surviving are her two sons, Joseph Brooke Price and his wife Elizabeth, Gregory Ross Price and his wife Leah Diane, both of Harrisonville, five grandchildren, Carolyn, Leanna, Jay, Rachel and Adam, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 22, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in Orient Cemetery.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonville VFW Auxiliary.
