Mrs. Pauline A. Whitton, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was born August 31, 1922 in Hartshorn, Missouri the daughter of Barrey and Bonner (Nettles) Spencer. She departed this life Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 89 years and 5 months.
On May 22, 1943, Pauline was united in marriage to Wilbur Wilson “Jake” Whitton in Platte County, Missouri.
Pauline, along with her husband, Jake, owned and operated the Howdy Dowdy Lounge in Lee’s Summit, Missouri from 1962 until 1969. She enjoyed buying and selling antiques at her booth at the Antiquing Market Mall. Pauline was known as an “amazing cook”. She had lived in Lee’s Summit before moving to Laurie, Missouri in 1969 and moving back to Lee’s Summit in 1984 and later to Grain Valley, Missouri.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jake on November 6, 1994; a sister, Nova McCarthy and a brother Babe Smith.
Pauline is survived by a son, David Whitton and wife Martha, Grain Valley, Missouri; a daughter, Melody A. Wilson and husband Steve, Blue Springs, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, Steven and wife Kirstin, Brent and Stephanie and husband Shane; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Morey Spencer, Independence, Missouri; two sisters, Vivion Luther and Wanda Muse both of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri. Burial will be in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House.
