Peter James Garrison, 58, of Independence, formerly of Pleasant Hill, was born, September 3, 1959, Kansas City, Kansas, the son of William W. “Bill” and Alice (Marsh) Garrison. He departed this life, Wednesday, March 18, 2017, at the KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

Pete attained the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 13; continuing in scouts he achieved rank of Tom Tom Beater in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was also proud of the fact that he attended the Philmont Scout Ranch.

Pete was a 1977 Pleasant Hill High School graduate. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from the Central Missouri State University graduating in May 1983.

On August 14, 1982, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Ruth Woodrum in Neosho, Missouri; they later divorced. On June 4, 2010, he was united in marriage to Estelle Marie Rodriquez in Eureka Springs, Arkansas; she survives.

Pete was first employed as a Music Teacher; later working for the Lee’s Summit Journal as a carrier. Declining health forced him into early retirement. He enjoyed traveling, and visiting with old friends about the past, and was passionate especially for Christ and sports. He would discuss and attend any event for every season whenever afforded the opportunity.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Estelle of Independence; son, Phillip (and Brittany) Garrison of Harrisonville; daughter, Rachel Garrison of Lee’s Summit; grandchildren, Cora Garrison and Adelynn Garrison of Harrisonville; step-daughters, Kim Kelley of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Irene (and Bryant Winkler) Neilon of Odessa, Missouri; step-granddaughter, Natalie Winkler of Odessa; sister, Sara (and Joe) Revelle of Fulton; other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded.

Graveside services were held Friday, October 27, 2017, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Reverend Kent Deubner will officiate.
