Phillip Lanning Sharp of Raymore, Missouri was born December 18, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Donald Earl and Florence Isabelle (Atkinson) Sharp. He departed this life on Sunday, July 27, 2008 surrounded by his family at St. Luke?s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 9 days. On October 7, 2000, Phil was united in marriage to Young ae Hur at Powell Gardens, Kingsville, Missouri. Phil was employed as Executive Vice-President of Operations for Fogel Anderson Construction, Kansas City, Missouri since 2002. He was President and owner of P.L. Sharp and Associates, Kansas City from 1984 until 1990. Served as Operations manager, office manager and Senior Project Manager for Taylor Kelly Company, Des Moines, Iowa from 2000 until 2002. Phil started in commercial construction in 1954 as a carpenter apprentice with Sharp Brothers Contracting Co., Kansas City and held positions with the company as assistant superintendent, estimator and Sr. project manager. He served as President of Sharp Brothers Contracting from 1974 until 1984. Some of Sharp Brothers notable projects in the Kansas City area was the primary contractor for the Truman Sports Complex, the original Bartle Hall, parts of Kansas City International Airport, Missouri State Office Building, the Federal Reserve Bank building and the national headquarters of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, Springfield, Missouri. Phil enjoyed his family, grandchildren, family gatherings, weight lifting, boating, camping, hunting, reading and spending time with his special group of friends helping others learn to live a better life. He attended St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Young ae Hur-Sharp of the home; two sons, Mitchell Sharp, Harrisonville, Missouri, Mark Sharp and wife, Ann, Springfield, Missouri; three daughters, Sonja Dickey and husband, Jerald, Sheryl Holland and husband, Steve both of Harrisonville, Missouri, Stephanie Clark and husband, Matt, Garden City, Missouri; step-daughter, Helen B. Dice, Phoenix, Arizona; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Don R. Sharp, Leawood, Kansas, John R. Sharp, Independence, Missouri; other relatives and many friends. Funeral Mass was held Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri. Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
