Raevetta was born in Seymour, Missouri, to Mable E. (Gurney) and Ray O. Boak. She attended Stark Elementary School, Independence, MO, and graduated from Manual High School, Kansas City, MO. Raevetta was married to Ira Levi Gordon on October 8, 1945. She lived most of her adult life "on the farm" in Harrisonville, MO. She passed at age 90 in Asheville, NC.
During her life she was employed by Montgomery Ward, William Bendix, Lake City Ammunition Plant, Western Electric, and Old Cedar Cafe. She volunteered at the Harrisonville Senior Citizen Center with the meals program and as coordinator of the monthly dances. Raevetta enjoyed playing table games (cards, dominoes, Scrabble, etc.), gardening, cooking, canning, cake decorating, wine making, flower arranging, sewing, clothes designing, home decorative crafting, watching animals, reading, dancing, listening to music, driving, and being with her friends and family. As Raevetta's home was open to nieces, nephews, foster children, and adults who needed home cooked food and a place to sleep, she was “Mom” to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, one grandson, and one great granddaughter.
Raevetta is survived by her children - Linda Ross of Fontana, KS, Ira Alan Gordon of Harrisonville, MO, Roy “Butch” Gordon of Harrisonville, MO, Sandra Skiles of Asheville, NC.; her sisters – Ruth Pickle and Nadine Jordan of Independence, MO; eight grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren.
Visitation was held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with a graveside service immediately followed at the Clearfork Cemetery near Garden City, Missouri.
