Raymond Morse Mathews, 84, of Kansas City, Missouri, was born March 26, 1931, the son of Augustus Ray and Mildred Hoggins (Palmer) Mathews. He departed this life Sunday, August 2, 2015, at the Jefferson Health Care Nursing Home, Lee’s Summit.
Raymond was a United States Navy Korean War Veteran, stationed in Japan, and served in the Missouri National Guard.
On October 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Kiyoko “Kay” Shibuya, in Yokohama, Japan. She preceded him in death on November 7, 2011.
Raymond had been employed as a delivery driver for the Hawn Bedding Company in Kansas City.
Raymond was also preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by three sons: Larry and wife Michelle Hartegan-Mathews of Basehor, Kansas, Jim Mathews of Seymour, Tennessee, and Robert and wife Earlina Mathews of Holden, Missouri, five grandchildren: Robert Mathews, Jr. of Holden, Christopher Mathews of Houston, Texas, Michelle Mathews of Springfield, Missouri, Tristan and Allison Mathews of Seymour; and one sister Maxine and husband Bob, of Horseheads, New York.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 8, 2015, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Reverend Charles Grant of the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment is in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
