Raymond Everett Smith, of Harrisonville, Missouri, was born July 15, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of US and Alice Marie (Smith) Smith. He departed this life Monday, October 1, 2012 at his home at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 16 days.
On March 28, 1963, Raymond was united in marriage to Janice Louise Still in Kansas City, Missouri.
Raymond proudly served his country as an Army Ranger and Captain in the US Army during the Vietnam War and Peacetime. He retired as Lt. Colonel from the US Army National Guard. He was also employed as a Tool and Die Maker for Allied Signal, Kansas City, Missouri until his retirement in 1997. Raymond was a member of the VFW Post #4409 where he was a faithful member of the Honor Guard providing Military Honors for the deceased veterans, and the Hurley Lee Spicer American Legion Post #42 both of Harrisonville. Raymond loved to work with his hands building things and always had a project he was working on.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Jan Smith of the home; two daughters, Margaret Goforth and husband Michael, Raytown, Missouri, Laura Smart, Archie, Missouri; three grandchildren, Brandi, Jennifer and Alex; two brothers, Paul Smith, Salt Lake City, Utah, Michael Smith, Ft. Scott, Kansas; a sister, Cathy Monsees, Dunnellon, Florida; other relatives and many friends.
Cremation.
No services scheduled.
Private family inurnment will be in the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas at a later date.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
