Ret. USAF Col. Thomas “Tom” Marshall Carter Jr., of Harrisonville, Missouri was born August 7, 1933 in Mt. Grove, Missouri the son of Thomas Marshall Sr. and Dorothy (Leach) Carter. He departed this life on Friday, September 20, 2013 at his home surrounded by love and family at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 13 days.
On July 7, 1962, Tom was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Snider in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Tom was a Civil Engineer for the Environmental Protection Agency, Kansas City, MO until his retirement on Jan. 3, 1998. He retired from the US Air Force Reserves in 1993. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, United Methodist Men, American Society of Civil Engineers, Robinett Family Association and the Cass County Republican Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of Barbara Carter of the home; a son, Phillip M. Carter and wife Karen Ann, Harrisonville, Missouri; a daughter, Susan Phillips and husband Mike, Blue Springs, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Rachel and Sam Phillips, Pamela Dye, Christina Spellman; two sisters, Susan Hart, Springfield, Missouri; Debbie Compton, St. Louis, Missouri; his step-mother, Naomi Carter, Hartville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
A private family burial in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri.
