Ronald Ira Carter, 75, of Pleasant Hill, was born, June 9, 1942, in Fryatt, Arkansas, the son of Ira and Thelma Ruth (McDonald) Carter. He departed this life Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the Research Hospital, Kansas City.

Ron was a 1960 Mammoth Spring Arkansas High School graduate. He furthered his education at the Conway Teachers School, Conway, Arkansas.

On September 23, 1962 he was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Williams in Kansas City, Missouri.

Ron was employed as an Expeditor for the United States Postal Service, in downtown Kansas City, for over 30 years retiring in 1999, and was a member of the American Postal Workers Union. At a young age Ron attended several St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Camps and was sought after by their organization as a left-handed pitcher. He was offered a minor league contract, but turned them down to start a family. He was an avid sports enthusiast and loved all sports, especially the Cardinals. He also loved hunting and fishing.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a half-brother Gerald Carter; and one daughter Shelly Carter.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Carter of the home; one daughter, Denise Carter of the home; one half-brother, Joe T. Carter of North Kansas City; one sister, Marilyn (and Chuck) Firquain of Olathe, Kansas; four nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Firquain, Alisa (and Eric) Young, Daryn Firquain, and Kayla (and Aaron) Sloop, all of Olathe; several great nieces and nephews; other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home.

Private burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Big Creek Baptist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
