Ronald N. 'Ron' Surber

June 16, 1957 — October 1, 2015

Ronald Neal Surber, 58, of Harrisonville, Missouri was born June 16, 1957, the son of Robert Dean Surber Sr. and Shirley Lucille (Gwinner) Surber in Harrisonville, Missouri. He departed this life on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
Ron began his formal education at Number Nine School, a one-room country school. Ron graduated from Sherwood High School, Creighton, Missouri in 1975. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Culver-Stockton College, Canton, Missouri in 1979 and his Masters of Business Administration at Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois.
He was united in marriage to Denise Garrett Burris on January 9, 1993, in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Ron was very happy to become a step-dad to Denises son Todd Burris and daughter, Jenny Parris, and was elated when he became a grandpa to Alexandria Burris, Elijah Parris, India Parris, and Selah Parris.
Rons church family was a very important part of his life. He was an elder at Grace Family Fellowship, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. He enjoyed mission trips with the youth, being a Sunday School teacher of the Youth Department, activities with the mens ministry and helping each year with Vacation Bible School. In 2014, he and Denise were blessed to go on a mission trip to Alaska.
Ron enjoyed life and was known for his many witticisms and puns. He delighted children of all ages with his rendition of Rinderella and Ladies and Jellybeans.
Ron was a faithful employee throughout his working years. Most recently, he was employed by Russell Stover Candies as Labeling Compliance Manager.
Ron was an outdoorsman who loved to camp, hunt, and fish. He enjoyed and appreciated Gods beautiful world and enjoyed being out in it.
Ron was a big fan of the Kansas City Royals and was happy to take each of his immediate family members to one of the playoff games last year. He played baseball himself in high school and college. As part of the 1975 Sherwood High School Baseball Team, he was inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame in 2013.
Ron enjoyed traveling, especially to Colorado and Branson.
Ron thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandkids play softball, baseball, and perform in musicals and plays.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Denise; his step-children, Todd Burris and wife Nancy, and Jenny Parris and husband Mike, all of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; grandchildren Alex Burris, Eli Parris, India Parris, and Selah Parris; three brothers, Robert Surber Jr. and wife Debbie of Harrisonville, Missouri, Richard Surber and wife Kathy of Clinton, Missouri, and Rodney Surber and wife Gayla of Lone Jack, Missouri; one sister Candice Brown and husband Bill of Des Moines, Iowa and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House.
