Ruth was a graduate of Lamar High School and worked in the social security office there after graduation.
On November 29th, 1945 she was united in marriage to R.H. McManis in Lamar. He proceeded her in death July 11th, 1980. She was also proceeded in death by her sister Betty Nell Springer, her husband Ralph, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dorothy and Merle Hubbard, niece Melissa "Janie" Hubbard and great niece Cathy Hubbard.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Phil and Cindy McManis of Pleasant Hill, nieces and nephews Alan and (Sue) Hubbard of Sparta Tennessee, Linda Springer of Folsom CA, Dennis Springer and (Roxanne Tabb) of Fullerton CA, and several great nieces and nephews.
Ruth was a modest woman of simple tastes and means. She was a strong and independent woman and lived life on her own terms. She treasured spending time with her family, friends and little dog Tia. She enjoyed simple walks in her yard and getting an occasional bouquet of fresh cut flowers from friends and family. She was always on top of the latest events in the political scene and love nothing more than to sit down and have a lengthy conversation with anyone and share her views on today's political world. As most people know, Ruth had a BIG sweet tooth and many were the lucky recipients of her generous Christmas gifts of peanut butter fudge, chocolate fudge, divinity, rice crispy crinkles, cookies and the list goes on. If it had chocolate in it or on it, it must be good! She wasn't crazy about cooking but boy did she LOVE to bake!
Ruth was a naturalist, environmentalist and recycled long before recycling was popular. She never needed to go places and do things or be entertained by the outside world. She loved her home, her yard and her dog and was quite content to stay there. She was happy with her life and wanted for nothing. We should all take a lesson from Ruth. Slow down, take a breath, smell the flowers, notice the little things in life, appreciate what life has given you and for those in your life. Ruth will be greatly missed by many but every time you look at a butterfly, bird, flower, smell a gentle rain or discover a new birds nest in your tree, feel Ruth's presence and know she is there with you.
