Samuel V. 'Sam' Helt

January 15, 1942 — February 15, 2016

Sam V. Helt was born January 15, 1942 the son of Ralph E and Velma Lynn Helt in Independence, MO. He departed this life on Monday, February 15, 2016 at his home near Pleasant Hill, MO at the age of 74 years and 1 month.

On September 29, 1962 he was united in marriage to Lenora (Sue) Crosswhite. They were married for 53 years. They became parents to a son Shawn and daughter Shanda and were blessed with five grandchildren. Kaila Leipard Orlando, Florida, Sutter and Slater Helt and Avery and Donovan Lawrence.

Sam grew up in Freeman, MO area, was a graduate of Freeman High School and a member of the First Baptist Church in Freeman. After high school he lived in Utah and worked at the Kennecott Copper Mine. When he returned to Cass County he drove a concrete truck and in 1963 he started Helt Waterproofing which he operated for 32 years. He and Sue purchased their first farm in 1971 and started their sod business Helt's Turf Farms.

Sam was preceded in death by his father Ralph Helt and infant sister Barbara Helt.

He is survived by his wife Sue of the home; his son Shawn (Michelle) and family Harrisonville, MO; daughter Shanda (Quentin) and family Pleasant Hill, MO; his mother Velma Diamond and husband Joe Peculiar, MO and his brother, Leroy Helt Higginsville, MO.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Immediately following the burial, a Celebration of Life Gathering was held at the Cass County Elk's Lodge, 2400 N. State Route 291, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Final arrangements entrusted to Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
