Steele Sloan Jr., of Garden City, Missouri, was born July 18, 1921 on the family farm Northwest of Creighton, Missouri, the son of Steele and Catherine (Adams) Sloan Sr. He departed this life Friday, July 20, 2007 at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park, at the age of 86 years and 2 days.
Steele attended Wadesburg rural school and was a 1939 graduate of the Creighton High School.
On June 12, 1949, Steele was united in marriage to Claris Rose Moore in Butler, Missouri.
Steele was a farmer and cattleman southwest of Creighton until 1964 and then moved to a farm near Powersville, Missouri. Steele and Claris also lived in the communities of Unionville, Salisbury and Peculiar, Missouri where they enjoyed attending local high school football and basketball games. He later moved to Garden City in 1991. Steele was raised Methodist and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Garden City, Missouri. He was an avid reader and enjoyed books on the Civil War and Indian History.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Claris on July 10, 1990 and a sister, Peggy Parker.
He is survived by two daughters, Shelley A. Morris and husband Ted, Overland Park, Kansas, Paula Sloan, Jacksonville, Florida; a granddaughter, Kimberly Bozich, Dallas, Texas; a sister, Eloise McGrath, St. Louis, Missouri; three nephews; a niece; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 24, at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice or American Cancer Society.
