Virginia L. VanWinkle

Virginia Lee VanWinkle of Raymore, Missouri was born August 29, 1924 to Ray Langston and Claire Alberta (Dexter) Horner in Kansas City, Missouri. She departed this life on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Foxwood Springs Living Center, Raymore at the age of 90 years and 9 days.
On April 8, 1949, Virginia was united in marriage to Allan K. “Rip” VanWinkle in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 1956, Virginia and “Rip” left Kansas City for Waynesville, Missouri. There they worked throughout the community until 1984, when she and Rip would work summers at Mesa Verde National Park and winters in Arizona or Florida. The year 1990 brought them to Grand Lake, Oklahoma where several family members resided and where Rip tragically passed away in a car accident. In 2000, Virginia “Ginnie” moved to Harrisonville, Missouri and then Raymore, Missouri to be near her grandson, Cody.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Allan in 1992; two brothers, Ray and Charles William Horner; and a sister, Wanda VanNess.
Virginia is survived by her son Doug VanWinkle (Gina), Austin, Texas; daughter Pam Siemiatkowski (Hank), Harrisonville, Missouri; a grandson, Cody Siemiatkowski; two brothers, Dexter Lacy, San Diego, California and Ralph Horner, Fort Collins, Colorado; two sisters, Juanita Cooley, Bedford, Texas and Velma Bridges, Norman, Oklahoma; other relatives and many friends.
Cremation. No services scheduled.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Leukemia Society.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
