Walter W. Mitchell

Walter Wallace Mitchell, 83, of Pleasant Hill, was born Monday, September 30, 1929, in Stella, Missouri, the son of Wallace Albert and Ada Marie (Terry) Mitchell. He departed this life at 1:05 p.m on Thursday, November 9, 2012, at the Vitas Hospice Inpatient Unit, Research Hospital.
He was a United States Army Korean War Veteran proudly serving his country from 1950 to 1953.
On August 8, 1991, he was united in marriage to Willa Dean Davis isn Las Vegas, Nevada.
Walter was a production manager for Farris Burns in Kansas City.
He was an active member of the Big Creek Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill; American Legion Post #0327, Shawnee, Kansas; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4409, Harrisonville, Missouri; Masonic Lodge #436 A.F & A.M, Overland Park, Kansas; and the Abdallah Shrine Temple, Overland Park, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by two sisters Willa L. Busse and Betty Catheryn Dixon.
Walter is survived by his wife Willa Dean of the home; one son Lynn (and Marsha) Mitchell of Salt Lake City, Utah; one daughter Sandy Mitchell of Kansas City, Missouri; one step-son Bob (and Faith) Likins of Wilmington, Ohio; one step-daughter Sonya (and Scott) Jury of Kansas City, Missouri; Five grandchildren; one brother Harroll (and Sharon) Mitchell of Vail, Arizona; two sisters Carole Yoakum of Raymore, Missouri, and Doris (and Ralph) Hines of Freeman, Missouri; other relatives; and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2012, at the Big Creek Baptist Church, 200 S. Jeffreys St., Pleasant Hill. Pastor Todd MacLean minister of the church will officiate. Graveside military services and interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the Pleasant Hill VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Big Creek Baptist Church Building Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
