Wanda J. Morris

For quite some time God kept saying he wasn’t ready for her in heaven, but on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 he welcomed her home.
Wanda Joan Miller was born on July 21, 1934 in Drexel, MO. to Mary Edna Miller. She lived most of her life in Drexel until 1952 when she married Donald A. Bailey and moved to Kansas City, MO. To this union was born one child, Douglas A. Bailey. They divorced in 1956 and she moved to Harrisonville, MO.
In 1973, she married Delbert G. Morris. Shortly after marriage she and Delbert became legal guardians to two granddaughters, Kristina Kae and Angela Dawn Atwood. From time to time a grandson as well, James D. Bailey. After taking some time off she began working for the Harrisonville Schools District and moved to different departments over the years. She retired from there in 2002.
Wanda was very active in the United Methodist Church and other organizations. She served on both District and Conference Boards for the UMC. She had served as President of the local UMW, Nevada District, Chair of the Wesleyan Service Guild, Secretary of the KC South UMW, Treasurer of Heartland South District, Treasurer of the Conference UMW, and served as Dean of the UMW School of Christian Missions known as Mission U. From the MO. West Conference Wesleyan Service Guild she was elected to serve as the South Central jurisdiction representative to the Women’s Division from 1972-1976. In 1994 she joined the Order of Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron from 95-97. She was appointed District Deputy Grand Matron in 2006.
Wanda loved to travel and had been to all 50 states. She also enjoyed two trips to Israel with her church and one which went over into Jordon. She also enjoyed ceramics, embroidery, and teaching her granddaughters Kristina and Angela to crochet and cross stitch.
Wanda is survived by a son Douglas A. Bailey, three step daughters; Deborah Chapman, Elizabeth Parris, Terri McElwain, a sister Delsa Norton, two brothers Gene Kinnaman, and Melvin Kinnaman, 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Delbert in 2002.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 3, 2016 at the United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Family received friends Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with Eastern Star services at 6:00 p.m.. Interment in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Family suggests contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church memorial fund, Harrisonville, Missouri or to Bayard Chapter #179 Order of the Eastern Star, Harrisonville, Missouri.
