William Edward “Bill” Lawson of Harrisonville, Missouri was born January 31, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Henry N. and Evelyn (Ferguson) Lawson. He departed this life on Friday, September 16, 2011 at his home near Harrisonville at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 15 days.
On October 1, 1955 Bill was united in marriage to Mickey Joan Tinsley and later married Ruth Kurzava in August of 1985.
Bill was employed as an operations manager for Fairbanks Scale Manufacturing Company in Meridian, Mississippi until his retirement. He attended Harrisonville Community Church and was a Marine veteran of the Korean War and later for the Air Force. Bill in his early years was a professional race car driver and his travels took him all over the country. He will be remembered by his family as a father who was always their for his children and their families. Bill enjoyed playing golf and traveling. He had lived in Garden City, Missouri and Linn Valley, Kansas before moving to Harrisonville to be close to his family.
Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth on March 6, 2006 and his brother, Henry.
Bill is survived by two sons, Dan Lawson and wife, Candy, Shawnee, Kansas, Bill Lawson and wife, Nancy, Harrisonville, Missouri; two daughters, Becky Lawson, Linn Creek, Missouri, Brenda Lawson, East Lynne, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Justin, Gayle, Stacey, Lynsey, Cheyenne, Cody and Denee; fifteen great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Lou Speight, Lenexa, Kansas; other relatives and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri. Cremation.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonville Christian School Scholarship Fund.
