William D. Stephens

William Daniel “Bill” Stephens, 72, of Lone Jack, Missouri, was born September 3, 1941, in Roanoke, Alabama, the son of Dewey and Annie Margarette (Britt) Stephens. He departed this life Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at the Lee’s Summit Medical Center.
Bill was a 1961, Roanoke High School graduate.
On May 25, 1996, he was united in marriage to Betty Lou (Ginnings) Davis in Lone Jack, Missouri.
On July 16, 1959, Bill enlisted in the United States Army. Following his time in the Army, he served as a mechanic for the Missouri Army National Guard for over 30 years retiring in 1991.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, farming, and mechanic work.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike Stephens and Rodney Stephens.
He is survived by his wife Betty of Lone Jack, Missouri; one son, Billy Stephens of Raytown, Missouri; four stepchildren, Debbie King of Smithville, Missouri, Thelma Kidwell of Pleasant hill, Missouri, Kenny (and Lori) Davis of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Sam (and Lora) Davis of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; two brothers Jerry (and Sybil) Stephens of Wadley, Alabama, and Johnny Stephens of Roanoke, Alabama; one niece Marla (and Todd) Webb of Wadley, Alabama; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Hope United Methodist Church, 525 Hunter Lane, Lone Jack, Missouri 64070. Pastor Creighton Cox minister of the church will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the Lone Jack Cemetery with full military honors by the Missouri Army National Guard.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hope United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home.
