Arlene Ann Kitson

February 10, 1936 — October 28, 2011

Arlene Ann (Davis) Kitson, age 75, departed this life on Friday, October 28, 2011. Arlene was born February 10, 1936, the daughter of Mike and Alice (Jubar) Davis. The forth of seven daughters, she was raised in Flint, MI.
It was on a fall day in her early teen years when she met and fell in love with Lewis Edward Kitson. They were across the street neighbors. He had come to the Davis' home to ask Arlene's elder sister to a football game; when the sister refused, Arlene gladly said she'd go. Thus began their courtship and eventual marriage on September 10, 1955. To this union were born eight children.
Due to Lewis' employment as a civil servant, the family moved often, making homes in Flint, Oklahoma City, Guam, Arlington, upstate New York, and eventually Peculiar, MO in 1970. Arlene was happy to be a homemaker, her life devoted to raising children. She served as a Girl Scout leader, health room volunteer, and participated in the PTA. The Kitson lawn was always filled with neighborhood kids. As if having eight children wasn't enough, she also babysat grandchildren as well as several teachers' children. She passed on her gift of hospitality and fondness for family holiday get-togethers.
After her children left the home, she became more active in the Shiner's organization, Casba Darlings, the Ladies of the VFW of Independence, KS, and bowled on several leagues. She enjoyed traveling, adding to her many collections, and was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Lewis of Peculiar; five sisters, Gertrude Chonard, Norma McMurphy, Barbara Kitson, Janet Pollendar, and Loretta Collins; children Glenda Kitson, Gale Garten & husband Mark, Gerry Hammack & husband Marc, James Kitson & wife Marilyn, Michael Kitson & wife Linda, Georgia Cambridge & husband Derek, Steven Kitson & wife Nancy, and Ginger Doll; 21 grandchildren, Bryan, Bradley, Alisha, Phillip, Lynnette, Jennifer, Nathan, Jon, Angela, Sara, Amanda, Abby, Amy, Lauren, Ronnie, Lonnie, Sara, Kara, Justin, Jessica, and Jason; and 17 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Isaac, Dylon, T.J., Austin, Seth, Nathan, Brandon, Quentin, Zackery, Ethan, Paeton, Chloe, Breanna, Rylan, Brogan, and Brayden.
