Arthur B. "Art" Berry

December 9, 1926 — July 20, 2019

Arthur Bryant “Art” Berry, Jr., 92, of Raymore, Missouri, was born, December 9, 1926, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Arthur B. and Muriel V. (Lewis) Berry. He departed this life, Saturday, July 20, 2019, at the St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded with love and family.

Art was a 1944, Argentine High School graduate. He was a WWII United States Navy Veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.

On August 1, 1947, Art was united in marriage to Norma L. Cabiness in Kansas City, Missouri.

Art was employed as a Fireman in Kansas City Kansas, retiring as Deputy Chief in 1977 after 30 years of service. He was Past President of the Fireman’s Union Local #64; served on the Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Fire Board; a Life Member of American Legion Post #1403 – Voiture 40 & 8, Sunrise Beach; Life Member of V.F.W. Post #3118, Pleasant Hill, Missouri; a member of the D.A.V.; and a member of the Longview Chapel Christian Church, Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Art was preceded in death by his father Arthur Berry, Sr.; his mother Muriel Berry-Doherty; one daughter, Judith Murray; and one sister, Lois Harding.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Norma of Raymore; one son Michael (and Pamela) Berry of Kansas City, Kansas; one daughter, Karen S. Turner of Lee’s Summit; six grandchildren, Brian C. (and Cassandra) Berry of Kansas City, Kansas, Kevin (and Nicole) Turner of Peculiar, Missouri, Kelly (and Steven) Shumway-Anderson of Lee’s Summit, Matthew (and Stephanie) Hopper of Greenwood, Missouri, Angela (and Tony) Uredi of Lee’s Summit, and Brandon (and Tassie) Murray of Kansas City, Missouri; twelve great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one half-brother, Bill Doherty of Blue Ridge, Georgia; one half-sister, Muriel B. Mellott of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 25, 2019, at the Longview Chapel Christian Church, Lee’s Summit (850 SW Longview Rd, Lee's Summit, MO 64081). Reverend Donna Heim officiated. A final salute ceremony was rendered by Past Commander Ron Beatty and members of V.F.W. Post #3118. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Graveside military services and interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the United States Navy and the V.F.W. Post 3118 Honor Guard. Casket bearers were Brian C. Berry, Brian M. Berry, Matthew Hopper, Brandon Murray, Kevin Turner, and Korbin Turner. Honorary casket bearers are Sean Murray and Roy Reed.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Luke’s Hospice House, Longview Chapel Christian Church, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
