Betty Gail Gabriel

Betty G. Gabriel, 89, passed away on February 23, 2026 at Silverado Memory Care in Lees Summit, MO

She was born the only child to parents Lonnie and Clara Shadwick on November 14, 1936, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. After graduation from high school, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri and remained in the general area until her passing.

In 1966, she was united in marriage to Clarence E. Gabriel in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 2018. Before his passing they made their home in Harrisonville, Missouri, on a small farm where she enjoyed tending to her flower gardens. Betty and Clarence enjoyed traveling across the country in their RV and Honda Goldwing, as well as abroad or on a cruise.

Until its closing, she spent many years as manager of the catalog department at Montgomery Ward at Truman Corners in Grandview, MO. She developed many friendships during that time.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She is survived by stepson, Jim Gabriel (Barbara) of Harrisonville, MO. and stepdaughter Shirley Shewmaker of Lee's Summit, MO. Grandchildren Jeremy and Justin and great grandchildren Austin, Levi, and Felix.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Ascend Hospice for the compassionate and loving care they gave Betty over the last two and a half years. Their nurses and aides were exceptional. We also thank many of the caregivers at Silverado Memory Care for their kindness and friendship they gave Betty the last three years.

Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026 at California City Cemetery, California, Missouri.
