Mrs. Bertha Burdena Murphy of Harrisonville, Missouri was born February 24, 1919 in Strawberry, Arkansas the daughter of Guy and Molly (Watson) Newberry. She departed this life Wednesday, April 19, 2006, Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 25 days.
On August 22, 1936, Burdena was united in marriage to Robert William Murphy in West Plains, Missouri.
Burdena was a homemaker. She was a member of the East Lynne Baptist Church, East Lynne, Missouri and had accepted Jesus Christ has her savior as a teenager. Burdena had lived in West Plains, Missouri before moving to Harrisonville in 1964. She enjoyed her family, garden, flowers and ceramics.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Murphy; four brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Robert W. ""Bob"" Murphy of the home; three sons, Garry D. Murphy and wife, Linda, Harrisonville, Missouri, Barry G. Murphy and wife, Mary, Garden City, Missouri, Robert D. Murphy and wife, Stephanie, Raymore, Missouri; two daughters, Brenda Bridges, Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Janet Murphy, Harrisonville, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Tammy, Sheila, Roddy, Sabrina, Suzan, Danita and Angela; fifteen great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; a sister, Sophia Burnett, West Plains, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2006 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.
Mrs. Murphy will Lie in State from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the funeral home.
