Carol Nadine (Shingleton) Knight of Harrisonville, Missouri was born on July 7, 1939, to Edward Elijah Shingleton and Jewel May (Williams) Shingleton in Harrisonville. Her heavenly home was prepared and waiting for her on the morning of September 18, 2026 at the age of 87 years 2 months and 11 days.
Carol was the youngest child and only daughter in her family. As stories go, oldest brother, Duane, was fond of his little sister. However, middle child, Don, being closer in age to Carol, considered her to be quite a nuisance to him! The teasing was mutual and they often got each other in trouble with their mother! Even into their eighties, with much laughter, the siblings often recalled the tales of their growing up years!
Carol graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1957, tying as Salutatorian in her class.
Carol worked many years at the Bank of Belton, in Belton Missouri, and later at Margie’s Hallmark Shop in Harrisonville.
Always thoughtful and kind, throughout the years she sent thousands of cards to family and friends for any occasion that a person could possibly have!
Carol accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at East Lynne Baptist Church. It was there that she met the love of her life, Wayne Knight.
Wayne and Carol were married November 7, 1959, at the First Baptist Church of Harrisonville, where they became members. Being married to her “Hubby” was the joy of Carol’s life.
The couple was often seen tooling around town in their bright red jeep, affectionately known as “Little Red”, while dressed to the nines in Chiefs or Royals attire! Together they maintained their pristine home and yard. They enjoyed eating out, going to church on Sunday, watching any and all types of sports on tv, and holidays spent at the farm with Don’s family.
Their deep devotion to each other spanned just short of 59 years, when Wayne went to be with the Lord on May 24th 2018. Since that day, Carol longed to be with Hubby again. For her, the waiting was hard.
Throughout the years that followed the loss of Wayne, Carol’s nieces, Debbie and Tamie, provided her with support and care. During Carol’s final days Becky traveled from her home in Wyoming to be by her Aunt’s side, and lovingly cared for her until the end of her life.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, parents Ed and Jewel, brother Duane, and wife Rebecca Jane, and brother Don, and his wife Ella May.
She is survived by niece, Debbie Bennett (Johnny), niece, Tamie Bennett (John R.), nephew Jerry Shingleton (Angela) all of Harrisonville, Missouri. Nephew Gary Shingleton, and niece Becky Shingleton, both of Powell, Wyoming. Many great and great-great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Aunt Carol, until we see you again, enjoy your New Home… and everything!
Cremation with a Memorial Graveside will be held at a later date.
