Charleene "Charlie" Bridges Bradley

Doris Charleene (Charlie) Bridges Bradley passed onto her eternal life on December 1st, 2022. Charlie was born on December 8th, 1928 in Auburn, Kansas just south of Topeka.

Charlie was the daughter of Fred Keck and Jessie Kingsley Keck. Charlie was married to Leo H. Bridges on December 11th, 1948. Charlie & Leo produced four children out of that marriage. DeWayne, Deborah, Dawna, and Douglas Bridges. Charlie was also very instrumental in the raising of David Bridges, her stepson who considered her his mom.

Charlie worked for Scavuzzo’s Grocery as a cashier for a total of 42 years. She retired in 1998 at the age of 70, and within a month decided that retirement wasn’t for her as of yet. Charlie went back to work at Scavuzzo’s for another few years, mostly part time.

Charlie was raised on a turkey farm where she could outwork all of her brothers and most anyone else. After graduating from high school, she worked at a meat packing plant in Topeka and was a pitcher for the DX Oilers of Topeka, a Semi-Pro Softball Team.

At a time in her life when her parents needed her help because of her dad’s declining health, she moved her family to Colorado and while living there, she started driving a school bus. She was entered into what was considered a Competitive School Bus Driving Rodeo where she took first place in every division. She was always a great competitor.

Charlie loved to travel, especially by car as she never wanted to miss seeing anything, and she loved spending time with family. You could always count on large family gathers at her house for every holiday and celebration where she always provided plenty of great-tasting food for all.

Charlie was proceeded in death by her parents, her daughter and her husband, Deborah and David Martin, by her stepson and his wife, David and Anita Bridges, her three brothers, Phillip, John and Freddie. Charlie is survived by her son and his wife DeWayne & Linda Bridges, her daughter and her husband Dawna and David Kruse, and her son Douglas Jesse Bridges.

Charlies’ faith was one of the most important aspects of her life. She would read the Bible from cover to cover and then start all over again and again. She walked with God and was an inspirational light to everyone who was fortunate enough to have passed her way and got to know her. She was generous with her time, money and herself. Never willing to say no to anyone who needed her.

With Charlies passing, God benefitted from the best that mankind has to offer Heaven. Today and forever, we know that Charlie is walking with her Lord and Savior.
