Cherelinda Sue Chaney, of Lee's Summit, Missouri was born February 7, 1945 in Harrisonville, Missouri the daughter of Paul Buford and Dorothy Vorris (Edwards) Bailey. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 12, 2016 at the KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 5 days.
Cherelinda was employed by AT&T until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of the Communication Workers of America and was an Union Steward as well as President or Executive Vice President for the CWA Local #6450. She was the Western Missouri Political Coordinator for CWA, Community Organizer for Nurses United Federation of Nurses and Health Care Professionals, Delegate to the Greater Kansas City Central Labor Council and Executive Board member, Labor Liaison for Missouri Democratic Party, Executive Board Member of the Missouri AFL-CIO, Appointed by Missouri Governor Mel Carnahan to Census 2000 Complete Count Board, Labor Representative for MARC Childcare Committee, Labor Representative for Private Industry Council and Full Employment Council, Board Member of the Institute of Labor Studies and was a Lee's Summit City Council Woman. Some of her special recognitions include Dedication of Service award from City of Lee's Summit, Awarded the 2001 Woman of the Year by the 5th District Democratic Women and was a Labor Delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 1998.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cherelinda is survived by two sons, Greg (Leah) Chaney and Chris Perdue (Kelly) both of Lee's Summit, Missouri; 5 grandchildren, Jacob, Nash, Cameron, Dillon and Shelby; a great-granddaughter, Gracelyn; a brother, Michael Bailey, Harrisonville, Missouri; a sister, Skyla Reed, Lee's Summit, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 16, 2016 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the KU Cancer Center.
