Corky Baumgarden

September 1, 1929 — December 3, 2012

Estel Leo Baumgarden was born in Osceola, Mo. on September 1, 1929.
He spent his early years growing up around that area. He was better known as Corky, a nickname his grandmother gave him.
He proudly served his country in Korea during the Korean Conflict as a dozer operator from 1951-52 including work on Heartbreak Ridge. During his army years he earned the Korean Service Metal with 2 Bronze Stars, a UN service medal and two O/S Bars.
After his discharge he returned to work at the Larabie Flour Mill in Clinton, MO. He was an expert truck driver beginning with Clearfield Cheese Co. of Clinton, MO. He also drove for Yellow Freight Co. of Kansas City KS and Cotter and Co, out of Grandview MO for 20 years, retiring in 1993. He earned many safe driving awards during his years on the road. He made many friends out on the road and was very proud and thankful of accumulating nearly one million miles with no serious accidents.
Corky received Christ as his Savior and was baptized in 1979. He was a faithful member of the Dayton Community Church, serving as a Board Member and Treasurer for a number of years.
He was a father to four children, Roy Baumgarden (Judy) of Shell Knob, MO, Elizabeth Cullison (Dale) of Butler, MO, Rodney Baumgarden of Urich, MO and Daran Baumgarden (Deanna) of Butler, MO.
He was also father to two step children, Bradley Fisher (Samantha)of Garden City, MO and Brett Fisher (Debbie) of Mesa,AZ.
He loved being grandpa to Heather, Jeremy, Mikey, Alycia, Seth, Rebekah, and Great-Grandpa to Tye, Haley, Regan and Easton.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald; a daughter, Carolyn; a grandson Sean; half sister, Peggy and a step brother, Dick Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Pauline; half sister, Wilma Jean Williams and Arlene Landon; Half brothers, Darrell Jones (Connie), Donald Ray Jones (Maxine) and T. H. Jones (Brenda).
He had many beloved cousins and other family members, and he will be missed by family and friends alike while he awaits our arrival in his heavenly home.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Dayton Cemetery.
Family will received friends Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Dayton Community Church near Garden City.
