Dewaine Walters of Harrisonville, Missouri was born May 21, 1921 near Merwin, Missouri the son of James Herschell and Pauline Margaret (Houtz) Walters. He departed this life Sunday, March 18, 2007 at Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 27 days.
On, July 5, 1941 Dewaine was united in marriage to Lola Mae Shipley and later married Gladys Burge Rhodes on April 4, 1992.
Dewaine was co-owner and operator of Walters and Sons Grocery Store, Archie, Missouri from 1946 until 1984. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Dewaine was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW Post #3118, Pleasant Hill and the American Legion. He was a 1939 graduate of Archie High School, Archie, Missouri. Dewaine enjoyed woodworking, making stained glass items, gardening, fishing and sports. He had lived in Archie before moving to Kimberling City, Missouri in 1986, to Pleasant Hill in 1992 and to Harrisonville in 2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lola Mae on September 15, 1991; a son, Gary Dewaine Walters on September 12, 1999; a step-son, J.C. Rhodes on March 5, 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys N. Walters of the home; two sons, Randy D. Walters and wife Laraine, Lebanon, Missouri, Kevin J. Walters and wife Phyllis, Raytown, Missouri; three step-sons, Larry Rhodes and wife Helen, Luther M. Rhodes and Jamie Rhodes and wife Sherry all of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; six grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Crescent Hill Cemetery near Adrian, Missouri.
Family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the funeral home.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
