Donald Joe Garrett

Donald Joe Garrett was born on May 18, 1948 to parents, John & Hazel (Cantrell) Garrett in Harrisonville, MO. He grew up on the family farm near Latour, MO.

Don met his wife Virginia, on a blind date when she was 15 and he was 17. They were married for 58 years. Together they had 3 children, Kim, Donny and Brett.

Don joined his Dad and his brother, Dave, in the farming and cattle business in 1972, which he continued to do until his retirement. He loved the outdoors and hunting & fishing.

Don was a member of Heart of Life church in Garden City, where he helped to serve the body and loved to talk to people about Jesus. Even in his last months, when he was in the hospital, he continued to ask all the doctors and nurses if they knew Jesus, to which he was more than happy to share with them.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, John & Hazel Garrett, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ellis & Juanita Burton, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Mary Ann Burton, brother-in-law Ron Surber, sister-in-law Donna Burton and his son Brett Garrett. He so looked forward to seeing Brett again.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of the home. His daughter Kim and son-in-law Tracy Smith, son Donny and daughter-in-law Rhonda Garrett. Grandchildren Erin (Derek) Feeney, Travis (Melanie) Smith, Tyler (Maddie) Garrett, Hope Garrett (Colton Branstine). Great Grandchildren, Neva Anne & Calvin James Feeney. Brother David (Shirley) Garrett, Sisters Darlus (Kenny) Fidler and Denise (Dennis) Barbarick, Brother-in-law’s Bob Burton and Harold Burton. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Heart of Life Church, Garden City, Missouri. 

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Heart of Life Church, Garden City, Missouri with interment at Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart of Life Memorial Fund and send in care to Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 432, Harrisonville, Missouri 64701.
