On November 25, 2024, Don Riffle passed away at the age of 76. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. Born on September 13, 1948, in Holden, Missouri, he was the youngest of seven children. In 1966, Don met Gail on a blind date in Holden Missouri. They were, as Don would say, "blissfully” married for 57 years and resided in Harrisonville where they raised their family. Don loved sports and was very competitive. He showed this by playing and coaching for many years.
Don was a person who truly embraced life. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, cherished by all who knew him. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his grandkids and family. As a father and grandfather, Don was always there—attending every sporting event, kids' activity, and family function. He brought joy and humor to any room he entered and always found a way to connect with each person. Don lived a life inspired by Sunday church services and biblical teachings. He retired from the Floor Layers Union after 38 years of service and spent much of his retirement working on the farm with his brother Jim and restoring his 1957 Chevy truck with close friends. Don was very giving of his time and was quick to show up when help was needed. At the time of his passing he was doing what he loved, outdoors working with family. In Don’s own words he would say, ”Gail, time to call the insurance man”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Glada Riffle; father and mother-in-law, Russell and Martha Lattimer; brothers, Ray, John and Jim; sister, Beverly Andes; Brother in law Bill Davis and Berle Andes; sister in law Barbara Riffle. Don is survived by his wife Gail of the home; sister Barbara Davis; brother Richard and sister-in-law’s Carolyn and Shirley Riffle; son Brian and grandchildren Sam, Kate and Ben; daughter Shelly and husband Adrian Keller and grandchildren, Maya, Noah, and Nathan.
