Doris Marie Bohannon of Harrisonville, Missouri was born May 5, 1919 near Harrisonville, Missouri the daughter of James Henry and Teelie Belle (Davis) Kirk. She departed this life on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville, Missouri surrounded by love at the age of 100 years, 5 months and 16 days.
On October 28, 1947 Doris was united in marriage to Lester Morris "Shorty" Bohannon in Harrisonville, Missouri.
Doris graduated in 1937 from Harrisonville High School. After graduation she took her first job at Hurley Lumber Company here in Harrisonville. She was later employed for several years as a secretary for Judge G.J. Smith in the Cass County Probate office and retired as a secretary at the First Christian Church, Harrisonville. Doris was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Harrisonville and served for over 20 years as a Pink Lady for the Cass Medical Center Auxiliary. She loved to sew, play cards at the Community Center, travel and go sightseeing. A special special pleasure was to go fishing with Shorty at Bennett Springs State Park. Doris was a lifelong area resident.
Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Lester on October 29, 1987; a brother, Ivan H. Kirk; 4 sisters, Nellie Musick, Bessie Garrett, Jessie Garrett and Alma Belle Lewis.
Doris is survived by a niece, A. Charlesine Guy, Grandview, Missouri; a nephew, Damon A. Lewis, San Angelo, Texas; other relatives and a host of friends.
Doris and Shorty had no children of their own, but there are many nieces and nephews living nearby. They warmly welcomed in their home as they did with their children and grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 25, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
