Dorothy Dean Burke

Dorothy Dean Burke (née Durrett), age 92, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on June 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born on January 12, 1933, in LaTour, Missouri, to Ernest and Loudean Durrett (née McDaniel). She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Durrett; her sister, Beulah Durrett; her beloved husband of 53 years, LaVerne Burke; and her loyal dog, Sophie.

She is survived by her son, Gary Burke and wife Linda Kelley of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and her daughter, Deborah Chambers of Harrisonville, Missouri. She also leaves behind grandchildren Travis Mickelberry and wife Michelle of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Megan Rudell and husband Clint of Harrisonville; great-grandchildren Mayleigh Gregg, Raigen Mickelberry, Brycen Mickelberry, Giuliana, Briella, and Ace Rudell; and great-great-grandchildren Esther & Ember Gregg, and Alana Kirk. Niece Dixie Peoples of Holden, Mo.

Dorothy married the love of her life, LaVerne Burke, on October 6, 1951, in Warrensburg, Missouri. Together they built a life full of love, laughter, and family.

Known for the beautiful flowers that bloomed in her yard each summer, Dorothy had a green thumb and a vibrant spirit. She loved fishing, playing cards, cooking delicious meals for those she loved, and going to the opry to enjoy live music. She was lively, sharp-witted, and adored by all who knew her.

Her secret to a long, full life? “Never act your age,” along with a daily Pepsi and a generous helping of ice cream.

Dorothy’s presence was a gift, and her memory will be cherished forever by her family and friends.

Cremation with a Celebration of Life Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2025 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
