Dudney Roy Spears, 81, of Harrisonville, MO departed this life on August 24th at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Dud was born on February 19, 1944 in Butler, MO to Asa Denton Spears and Augusta Maxine (Wackerman) Spears, the third of six children.
Dud graduated from Leeton High School in 1961, then enrolled in college in Warrensburg for one semester before deciding it wasn't for him. He then found employment in the machinist trade, where he discovered his true calling.
Dud married Victoria (Dixon) Spears on July 2nd, 1980 in Lee's Summit, MO. The two enjoyed a wonderful 45 years together. Their blended family consisted of three sons and two daughters. They began their life together in Greenwood, MO before moving to the outskirts of Harrisonville in 1993, where Dud fulfilled his dream of living and retiring in the country.
Dud worked as a Journeyman Machinist and Tool Maker for 50 years. Known as one of the best, he took great pride in his craft. He loved his job and enjoyed mentoring others in the trade. He retired in 2011 as a member of the IAM Lodge 778 from Honeywell FM&T. Even after retirement, he especially loved tinkering on his property and working in his garden. He was a car enthusiast with a passion for Chevy muscle cars and restoring them. On any given Saturday night, you could find him at a local car show.
He was a devoted grandfather who loved and supported all of his grandchildren, always taking pride in their accomplishments and holding each one close in his heart.
As a committed environmentalist & conservationist, he enjoyed planting trees and believed strongly in recycling. He was an avid blood donor to the Community Blood Bank of KC, donating over 25 gallons since 1971.
Known affectionately as "Pops" to most in his community, Dud never knew a stranger. He always had a smile for everyone and was quick to help anyone in need. He always looked forward to the monthly coffee club with his fellow AT&T retirees and never missed a Sunday breakfast with his family at a local cafe. He leaves behind a lasting legacy in his community and will be missed by many.
