Edna J. (Nichols) Gagnebin Holmes Barbarick, 91, of Pleasant Hill, was born, March 30, 1925, in Osceola, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph E. and Grace (Cline) Nichols. She departed this life at 2:33 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza.
Edna was a 1943 Osceola High School graduate; she later attended business school in Kansas City.
In January 1944 she was united in marriage to Philip E. Gagnebin, he preceded her in death on May 24, 1956. On April 19, 1963, she was united in marriage to Clinton F. Holmes. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1992. On April 27, 1997, she was united in marriage to Luther Barbarick. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2012.
Edna was employed as a Claim’s Representative for the Commercial Union Insurance Company, Kansas City. She was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church. She loved music and played the Dulcimer, Auto Harp and guitar. She was gifted at sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and quilting. She also enjoyed bowling and roller skate dancing. She was passionate about horses and horseback riding also.
Edna was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, Loyal “Nick” Gagnebin as well as four sisters, Ruth, Ruby, Rebecca and Mary Eva.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Phylis and Sam Goforth of Raytown; four step-children; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Jo Gagnebin of North Kansas City; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Reverend Dr. Kris Tenny-Brittian will officiate. Interment is in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casketbearers are Todd Goforth, Hamid Hamedi, Tate Martin, Travis Martin, John Holmes and Bill Mercer.
