Elizabeth "Betty" Hansen

May 11, 1943 — March 25, 2018

Elizabeth Christine Hansen of Harrisonville, Missouri was born May 11, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the daughter of Ralph and Elizabeth Ann (Schuster) Olson. She departed this life on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at her home in Harrisonville at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 14 days.

Betty was employed as a parts machine operator for Henkel (Dexter Automotive) of America until her retirement in 2006. Betty was an avid reader. She spent most of her time reading and rereading her extensive book collection. Besides sitting in her blue chair by the window, Barnes and Noble was her favorite place. Her main joy in life was spending time with her grandsons and great granddaughter. She loved playing Star Wars and pirates with her grandsons, Sj and Liam. She always made sure her candy drawer was full of gummies and ‘chockit” for her great granddaughter, Aiden. Betty constantly told anyone who would listen about her granddaughter Lindsy and grandson Dylan. She loved looking at photos of her newest great grandson Easton and delighted in how chunky he is. Until the very end, she loved being with her family.

Her fight with cancer lasted for 2 long years. She may have lost the battle but she never lost her smile or amazing sense of humor. She adored her nurses at the Sara Cannon Cancer Center and her doctors, Dr. Singh and Dr. Szeto. Without a doubt, her friends and family will miss her very much.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Elizabeth Olson (Schuster) of MN, five siblings, son Frank Thornton of MN and son in law Dylan J Snyder of Kansas City, MO.

Betty is survived by her children; Christine Swenson (Ted) of Plymouth, MN, Frank Thornton (Deceased) of MN, Beth Thornton of MN, Sean Thornton of MN, Jennifer Hawkins (Shane) of Harrisonville, MO, Tom Juve Kansas City, MO, Rachel Hansen Kansas City, MO.; her grandchildren, Dylan Strom (Kelli), Lindsy Ball Keller (Jakob), Frank Thornton Jr, Sj Hawkins, Liam Hawkins; her great-grandchildren, Aiden Keller and Easton Strom; a brother, Ralph Olson, Jr. of California and a sister, Sandra Kimes of Minnesota; multiple nieces and nephews and cousins; other relatives and a host of friends.
