Elton Crust

Elton Crust, 91, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

On Oct. 3, 1934, Elton was born in Bates County, Missouri, to Don and Marie Crust. He lost his mother when he was 3 years old. A number of family members including aunts and uncles helped to care for him while he was young. After his dad remarried, Elton gained three brothers: Ronnie, Bud and Billy.

Elton attended several country schools and Harrisonville High School. He spent his adult life working as a farmer and raised cattle, sorghum, soybeans and wheat. He farmed with his dad until his dad retired. Elton also operated a farm of his own until his retirement.

Elton married Dorothy Orr in 1955. They had two children: Marie and D.L. For most of their marriage, they lived on the farm north of Harrisonville. He lost Dorothy to cancer in 1984. Later, he married Elda Mae Bledsoe in 1987. He helped Elda with her dog breeding business. He lost Elda to Alzheimer’s in 2010.

He enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and marbles, visiting with family and friends and attending services at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. With some of his stepchildren, he traveled to Ireland and Alaska and enjoyed the travel very much.

In 2017, Elton was diagnosed with kidney failure. He had dialysis treatments for more than eight years. He continued to drive until he broke his arm in 2022, and he happily was able to live at home until a recent hospital stay.

Elton’s family finds comfort in Elton being in heaven now and his pain and sorrow being gone. He will be missed by his surviving family: daughter Marie Roach and her husband, Mickey; son D.L. Crust and his wife, Arrin; granddaughter Alice Roach; granddaughter Danielle Hemme and her husband, Alex; grandson Aaron Crust and his wife, Kelly; grandson Jacob Crust and his wife, Crystal; great-grandchildren Asher, Sutton, Hudson, Gatlin, Quinn, Weston and Eloise; stepchildren Mitzi, William, Karen, Deanna and Lynette and their children and grandchildren; his brothers, Ronnie Crust, Bud Crust and Billy Crust; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Craig Bledsoe.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2026, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 1300 Lexington Road, Pleasant Hill, MO 64080. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2026 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial will be at the Garden City Cemetery in Garden City, Missouri.
