Eveline Burke (Grose) Pollock, 96, Harrisonville, MO, died peacefully Saturday, August 6, 2005. She was born March 10, 1909 in Harrisonville, the daughter of Bert Purcell and Beryl Lockhart (Burke) Grose. She is the granddaughter of John James and Nancy Eveline (Pearson) Burke and Dr. George H. and Harriet N. (Granberry) Grose.
Eveline graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1926 and took college courses through the University of Missouri Columbia. She performed accounting services for area businesses prior to her marriage to Joseph Melvin Pollock, and later was the Harrisonville Branch Librarian and a day care provider.
Eveline treasured her family and friends and had a keen intellect and a wonderful laugh, a strong devotion to her faith and zest for life, and a lifelong interest in travel and cultural events. Throughout her life, she taught by word and example the importance of love, loyalty, prayer and kindness; living ethically with integrity and grace; exhibiting strength and resolute determination to persevere through the tough times; enjoying and focusing on the good times; living fully in the moment; maintaining intellectual curiosity and joy in continual learning; being self-sufficient but knowing when to gratefully accept the loving assistance of others; and discerning and accepting God's will in our lives. Although she would modestly protest, her family always considered her a living saint. Eveline was a 75-year member and former President of the Progress Study Club, a former Girl Scout troop leader, and a 26-year member of the Daughters of Isabella.
Besides her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Pollock in 1946.
Eveline is survived by her three children, John Pollock, Valley Center, Ca., Joseph Pollock Jr., Overland Park, Ks., Margaret (Pollock) Laws, Kansas City, Missouri, and by her grandson, Greg Pollock, Harrisonville, Mo., whom she raised and loved like a son. She is also survived by six additional grandchildren, Andrea Pollock, Shawna Pollock, Kristen (Pollock) Richards, Michele (Laws) Volz, Chris Laws and Matthew Laws; eleven great-grandchildren, Chase, Anthony, Stephanie and Selena Richards, Nicole, Andrew, Michael, Nicholas and Catherine Volz, Ansley and Emily Laws; and additional nieces, nephews and special cousins.
Eveline's family and friends are so grateful for her love and guidance through the years and the many wonderful memories she gave us. She believed with certainty rather than hope in life everlasting and the benevolence of God. Therefore, while we will always miss her wonderful presence in our lives, we know that she is now happily experiencing the warm and welcoming embrace of God and enjoying His sincere congratulations for a job extremely well done. We thank God for sharing her bright light with us, and we look forward to rejoining her in paradise.
A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, August 13, 2005 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.
