George Theodore Sweitzer Jr., of Harrisonville, Missouri , was born August 5, 1921 in Harrisonville the son of George Theodore and Odella (Whitsitt) Sweitzer Sr. He departed this life on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 26 days.
On September 4, 1948, George was united in marriage to Virginia Louise Simon in Columbia, Missouri.
George was an practicing attorney at his George T. Sweitzer Jr. Law Office, Harrisonville. He was also the Prosecuting Attorney in Cass County for two terms, 1951-52 and 1953-54. He was an Army veteran of World War II where he received a Purple Heart and was a Prisoner of War in Germany for 6 months. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4409 both of Harrisonville and the Cass County Democratic Party. George attended Central Missouri Methodist College, Fayette, Missouri and was a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia with an AB and LLB degrees. George was a lifelong resident of Harrisonville.
Besides his parents, He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia on October 18, 2006.
He is survived by a son, George W. ""Wally"" Sweitzer and wife Brenda, Harrisonville, Missouri; two daughters, Rebecca S. Kraxberger and husband Michael H., Blue Springs, Missouri, Mary Helen Lehman, Belton, Missouri; four grandchildren, Christopher, Celia, Gabe, James; two great-grandsons, Trenton and Brockton; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville.
