Harvey L. Dunn, 83, Harrisonville, MO answered his last call October 16th, 2006 at his son Michael's house in Port Allen, LA.
Harvey was born May 26, 1923 in Harrisonville to William C. and Mary D. Dunn. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and sister Jeannie (Dunn) Dove. He is survived by son Michael Dunn and his wife Roxie of Port Allen, grand-step daughters Suzanne and Tina and their children Emily, Logan, Charlie and Reagan as well as his son William (Bill) Dunn and his wife Annemie of Overland Park, KS and his grandsons Matthew and Nicholas. He is survived by sisters Irma Robertson and Rose Glanz and brother William Dunn, all of the Washington DC area, and brother Hugh C. Dunn of Macon MO. He is also survived by his former wife and long-time friend Kathleen (Kati) Dunn of Kansas City, MO.
Harvey served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II and was a member of the Hurley Lee Spicer American Legion Post 42 for over 60 years. He was a carpenter for much of his life and served for many years as Secretary-Treasurer of the United Brotherhood of Carpenter's Local 777 before his retirement. He was a volunteer with the American Red Cross for many years. He was an Eagle Scout and a Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
Above all, Harvey was a fireman and will be remembered by many for his years of dedicated service to the Harrisonville Legionnaire Volunteer Fire Department, the Cass County Firefighters Association, the West Central Fire Fighters Association, the International Association of Arson Investigators and the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri (FFAM). He was a member of the Harrisonville Volunteer Fire Department for decades, serving as Assistant Chief for much of that time. He was a member of the FFAM since its inception in 1953 and served for several terms as both Sergeant-of-Arms and Board Director for District 4. He also served many tours of duty as a member of the Missouri State Fair Volunteer Fire Department. He was a lifelong advocate for more and better firefighter safety and training.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Harvey's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Dickey Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 27, 2006 at the funeral home.
