Iris Lucille Hendrick Schuster, age 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away June 10, 2023, in Merriam, Kansas. She was born February 6, 1934, to Brooksie and Anna Daniel Hendrick in Post Oak, Missouri.
At the age of 9, Iris gave her life to God and never strayed from that path. She graduated from Ballard High School, Ballard, Missouri in 1952. After graduation she got a job at Farmland Industries in Kansas City and later attended Kansas City Business College in Kansas City, Missouri.
On a Sunday morning in 1958, Iris met Eldo Schuster at Sunday School. He was an Airman from Oklahoma who was stationed at the Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base near Grandview, Missouri. They later married October 7, 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Belton, Missouri, and lived in Midwest City, Oklahoma, for a few months before moving to Independence, Missouri.
Iris and Eldo taught Sunday School for many years and were always active in their church. They attended the Evangelistic Center Bible School and served on the mission field in Central America from 1969 through 1973. They first taught in a small Bible School in Costa Rica and later did Open-Air Campaigns in Nicaragua.
After returning home, they purchased the Country Club TV business in Brookside of Kansas City, Missouri. They owned and operated this business for 17 years before selling it and later owning and operating Home Town Electronics TV in Olathe, Kansas. They retired four years later.
Iris loved to garden, scrapbook, and do other crafts which she would teach her nieces when they stayed with her in the summer. Family was very important to her and would host the family dinners after her mom passed away. Iris was very close to her siblings and would call them every week. She loved meeting them and their spouses for lunch to celebrate each of their birthdays throughout the year. She and Eldo enjoyed travelling and often made trips to Branson, Missouri.
Iris loved to teach God’s Word and held a lady’s Bible class in her home for 15 years. She also taught at the Women’s Prison in Lansing, Kansas, for five years. She loved God, family and friends. She was a very kind, loving lady who always had a smile and showed compassion to everyone she met.
Iris was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Bill Hendrick and Scottie Hendrick; her sister, Etta Sue Fairman; her sisters-in-law, Ginny Hendrick, Linda Hendrick and LeRoyce Schuster Balazik; her brothers-in-law, Melvin Fairman and Monte Schuster.
