James "Jim" Robertson Higgins, of the Quick City Community near Holden, Missouri was born November 20, 1922 in Quick City, Missouri the son of Eddie James and Carrie Lee (Duck) Higgins. He departed this life feeding the fish at the Big Creek Wilderness Lodge near Holden on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the age of 92 years,
On April 27, 1943, Jim was united in marriage to Genevieve AnnaBelle Sherman in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jim served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and returned to Kansas City until he and his wife relocated to Quick City in 1954 and bought the Quick City General Store. He was a plumber with the Plumbers Union Local #8, Kansas City until his retirement in 1981 and later was employed at Stahl Specialty in Kingsville, Missouri. Jim was a security guard for Holden High School since 1966, also served Chilhowee High School in that capacity for two decades and also for F&C Bank in Holden from 2003 until 2011. He was also a deputy for the Henry County Sheriff's Department for 30 years and for the Johnson County Sherriff's Department from 1958 until 2000. He was currently the grounds keeper at the Big Creek Wilderness Lodge near Holden. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the sport since meeting good friend Harold Ensley in Kansas City. He was member of the Quick City Christian Church, the Golden Eagle NRA and a life member of the North America Hunting Club. Jim was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5844, Holden, 50+ year member of the Scottish Rite, Order of the Eastern Star, Hounddog Shrine Club, Holden Masonic Lodge #62 A.F & A.M., and the American Legion Post #371, Urich, Missouri.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Higgins on April 10, 2003; a daughter, Anita Carrie on September 12, 1961; two brothers, Edgar and Harold Higgins.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Carson and husband Gary, Holden, Missouri; two grandchildren, Nicole Lewis and husband Chris, Megan White; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Cooper Lewis; a brother, Keith Higgins, Oak Grove, Missouri; two sisters, Betty Sherman, Holden, Missouri, Carolyn Robinson, Centerview, Missouri; his companion for the last 7 years, Mildred Marksberry, Clinton, Missouri; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 21, 2015 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Grant Cemetery near Creighton, Missouri.
Family suggests memorial contributions to the Jim Higgins Scholarship Fund for Holden High School.
