Jeanne Louise Antes

Jeanne Louise (Hodges) Antes, aged 100, passed away August 28, 2026, surrounded by family. Loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jeanne's life was shaped by her deep faith in God and devotion to her family. Jeanne was born February 4, 1926, to Arthur Oliver Hodges and Grace Margaret (Turnour) Hodges. She was the fifth of seven children. She and her sisters often spoke of their childhoods growing up in Independence, Mo. She was particularly close to her two younger sisters, with whom she formed the dance trio The Three Tapperettes as young children and into the second world war, performing for servicemen and USO shows. Jeanne graduated from William Chrisman High School and attended Graceland College with her two younger sisters. Always up for adventure, Jeanne took flying lessons and earned her pilots' license, a daring feat for young women in the 1940s. She met her husband, Marcius (Marc) Simon Antes, while working at TWA's downtown offices. Jeanne and Marc settled in Avondale, Mo. to raise their children. In 1970, after the death of their eldest daughter, Marcia, they moved the family to Urich, Mo. A profound event in Jeanne's life was being saved in Jesus at the Clinton Assembly of God Church in 1977. She has been a faithful witness to all family and friends. They will miss her gentle, light heart and capacity for fun. Jeanne loved teaching Sunday school, directing children's music programs, swimming, sewing, and babies. Many family and friends have been gifted hand-sewn baby blankets over the years. Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband Marc, by her daughter, Marcia, and by great-grandson Myles Hayward.

Jeanne is survived by two sisters, Carol Hansen and Kathleen Butterworth; by her children: son Mark Antes (wife Jeannie), daughter Melissa Antes; daughter Nancy Lawson (husband Bill); daughter Carol Bullard; and son Steven Antes. She is survived also by grandchildren Gayle Lawson Hayward, Stacey Lawson Hopson (husband Tony), Chris Antes (wife Audra), Mark Antes, Jr., Lynsey Lawson Kern (husband David), Elena Bullard Grego (husband Grant), and Claire Bullard Boyd (husband Zach); by great-grandchildren: Savana Hayward, Eddie Hayward, Henry Hayward, Harry Hayward, Lily Hopson, Gordon Hopson, Jack Hopson, Lydia Kern, Eleanor Kern, Alice Kern, Genevieve Antes, and Noah Antes; and by a great-great- grandchild, Cyrus Hayward. She is also survived by many cousins, nephews and nieces.
