James “Jim” LeRoy Tjardes of Holden, Missouri was born December 28, 1948 in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, the son of Boyd Anson (Jim) and Letha Ardella (Pyle) Tjardes. He departed this life on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Lee's Summit Medical Center, Lee's Summit, Missouri surrounded by love and family at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 23 days.
Jim was united in marriage to Kathryn Anne Brown on January 6, 1972 in Holden, Missouri.
Jim was employed as an examiner for the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City, Missouri until his retirement in 2004. He loved the outdoors with gardening and beekeeping as his favorite hobbies. He adapted his walker to fit between the rows of produce. Even after losing his leg, he gardened from his electric wheelchair. Jim loved to share his bountiful garden produce with his family and friends. Jim's favorite admonition to his grandchildren was, "Read your Bible and obey it".
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathryn B. Tjardes of the home; 4 sons, Boyd Anson Tjardes (Viencia), San Diego, California, Ernest Delbert Tjardes (Selena), Holden, Missouri, Lemuel Wayne Tjardes (Stacy), Garden City, Missouri, Theodore Ray Tjardes, Lawrence, Kansas; a daughter, Beth Anne Tjardes-Robbins (Philip Richard), PoySippi, Wisconsin; 7 grandchildren, Jaford, Debby, Sahara and Liam Tjardes and Renwick, Hadassah and Shiloh Robbins; 2 sisters, Judy Tjardes, Saginaw, Texas, Sharyn Hulter, Topeka, Kansas; other relatives and a host of friends.
Cremation. Arrangements are under the care of Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri.
A Celebration of Life service was held Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Garden City Community Building, Willow Lane Garden City, Missouri.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Jim Tjardes Memorial Fund.
