It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of James Wesley Matteson, known to all as “Jim,” on Sunday, November 17th, 2024. Jim was 44 years old and resided in Garden City, Missouri.
Born on July 14th, 1980, Jim grew up in East Lynne, Missouri and Graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1998. He then pursued a license in massage therapy. He went on to hold many different jobs notably providing in-home health care.
Above all, Jim was a proud and devoted father to two daughters Annastasia Shealynn Matteson and Keeleighann Reign Matteson, who were the lights of his life. He poured his heart into supporting their passions, showing up to every event for them, big or small.
Jim is survived by his daughters; his loving parents, Jessie (John) Potter and Wesley (Lola) Matteson; his siblings, Katherine (Adam) Patrick, Tammy (Dan) Cushard, Sharon Jackson, and Wesley Matteson; his grandfather Jimmie Mailen; as well as a close-knit group of nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends who adored him. He is predeceased by his beloved grandmother, Patricia (Pat) Mailen, Faye Christian, and grandfather Wesley J Matteson.
A man of great generosity, Jim would go out of his way to bring joy to those he cared about. Just a phone call away, he was always there if you needed anything. Whether it be driving in the middle of the night, being with you when you couldn’t be alone, or even just listening without judgment, Jim made everyone feel safe, supported, and loved.
Jim had a sharp, often irreverent sense of humor and a knack for bringing laughter to any situation. He loved to tease and playfully “rile up” those he cared about, always in good fun. A true Kansas City Chiefs fan, Jim cherished game days spent with his family, cheering on his favorite team. Those moments were filled with laughter, snacks, and the unmistakable sound of Jim yelling at the television.
A lover of all things sci-fi, video games, books, and movies, Jim found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He lived his life unapologetically as himself and encouraged others to do the same, showing by example that happiness comes from embracing who you are.
Jim’s family will honor his memory with a celebration of life on Monday November 25th, 2024, with a visitation starting at 4 and services following. Friends and loved ones are welcome to join in sharing memories and laughter, just as Jim would have wanted.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to his daughters’ education fund. Please make checks payable to Katherine Patrick.
Jim was truly one of a kind, and his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. His love, laughter, and unwavering support will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
